VALUABLE HISTORICAL MATERIAL ON SDA WOMEN CLERGY DONATED TO CWC

A treasure trove of materials documenting the last forty years of discussion regarding women clergy in the Adventist church was donated recently to the Center for Women Clergy.  The donation was made by Dr. Patricia A. Habada, recently retired curriculum specialist with the Church Ministries Department of the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, who has been a dedicated supporter of women clergy.

Habada co-edited the book, The Welcome Table: Setting a Place for Ordained Women, and participated herself in a number of committees and study groups which discussed the issue during those years.  In1987 Habada also organized the lay-group, Time for Equality in Adventist Ministry (TEAM), which provides advocacy and scholarship for women in ministry.

The Center for Adventist Research describes the collection as "papers, minutes, official actions, position statements, e-mails, letters, articles, programs, chatroom transcriptions, and audio-visuals on the topic of the development of  Seventh-day Adventist women clergy.  More specifically it relates to the debate within the Church during the 1970s to the 1990s over the ordination of women to the gospel ministry.  The collection is generally favorable to the ordination of women, but it does present opposing materials as well."

The collection is housed in the Center for Adventist Research at Andrews University and is available to those engaged in historical research.  For more details contact the Center at 269.471.3209 or via e-mail - car@andrews.edu.
